The Phillipines Essays - Maritime Southeast Asia, Philippines
The Phillipines Over the past few years, the Philippines' economy has undergone a remarkable transformation. In the late 80's and early 90's the Philippines were stuck with poor political leadership, economic growth, and slow paced economic development. Today it is recognized globally that the Filipino economy has turned around to produce a positive growth. One of their biggest accomplishments has been the GNP growth rate rise from zero in the early nineties to between 5% and 6% today. The current president, Joseph Ejercito Estrada, is following the strong pace set by former president. Under the Ramos administration, important steps were taken towards economic liberalization. These steps included the opening of banks and telecommunications sectors, and the changing of investment laws, which created a more attractive business alliance and stronger commercial relationships with the United States. Because of these events, the United States remains to be the number one trading partner of the Philippines, and they are among the United States top 25 trading partners. According to President Estrada's speech on January 8, 1999, thanks to the actions of former president Ramos our country continues to enjoy positive growth despite the crisis in Asia. In the region last year, only Singapore and the Philippines posted positive growth rates. Some of the major factors concerning the economic growth during Ramos's term in office that Estrada intends to continue to give attention to are foreign relations, education, health, transportation, banking and trading. Modern education in the Philippines is becoming a major issue in the growth and stabilization of the country's economy. During the last fifty years, education has become a major concern for this country, and it has recently been made more readily available through expansion. Despite this expansion, the quality of education was still not up to par and remains a concern today. One problem facing the education system was a thirty- percent difference in the literacy level between rural and urban areas. Also, all families below the poverty line could not afford to educate their children beyond elementary school. These and other problems like poor teacher performance, overcrowded classrooms, lack of language skills and low wages could definitely benefit from new programs aimed at improving work productivity and family income. In 1990, over 10,000 foreign students studied in the Philippines, the majority of which were American. Until recently, most of the students attending these schools had to be taught in three languages; English, Filipino and Spanish. Now the schools primarily focus on Filipino, which will relieve much stress on students and faculty, and promote faster progress in the future. Another controversy noticed by many American students was the fact that many education policies were fluctuating constantly, and were likely to be changed before teachers became used to them. The most important concern of the education system in the Philippines is the number of students who actually complete college, and are then unable to find a job that they were not grossly overqualified for. These trained personnel could facilitate economic development if properly utilized, which is why the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports is working to develop better mandatory policies for and closer direct supervi sion for its schools. The workforce of the Philippine people is terrible. Not enough jobs are available for the people, and the ones that are low paying and long working. Over 40 % of the workforce were under 15 years of age in 1990. Agriculture comprises 45 percent of the current workforce, which is much lower than it had been in the past. In the last decade, the service sector (commerce, finance, transportation, and a host of private and public services) became the residual employer, accounting for almost 40 percent of the workforce. A major problem with the workforce is the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate is currently 11.4 %. The worst part about this is that the majority of the unemployed is young, inexperienced people who were relatively well educated. Since the lack of job opportunities, the educated people find themselves unemployed because everyone is fighting for the higher jobs. Another important aspect that helps dictate the economic growth of a country is health. In the Philippines the struggle against disease has been increasing over the years. Life expectancy rose

HCS 483 Information System Briefing Essays
HCS 483 Information System Briefing Essays HCS 483 Information System Briefing Essay HCS 483 Information System Briefing Essay Information System Briefing Health Care Information Systems HCS 483 August 25. 2013 Information System Briefing Supplying quality wellness attention is quickly going synonymous with wellness attention organisations geting engineering and information systems that are the most current. Success of the wellness attention organisation depends on the execution of information systems that are designed to run into the criterions of quality set by the organisation and the wellness attention industry. Acquisition and execution of new or upgraded information systems pose large challenges. Understanding the organisations ends and the functions of the stakeholders will assist in the procedure of taking the right information system for usage by the organisations wellness attention suppliers. Choice and Acquisition Making a maneuvering commission to get down the procedure of choosing and geting is the first measure for a wellness attention organisation when looking at implementing a new information system. Appointing a undertaking director to take the commission to assist give the appropriate information and steer the commission in doing determination. The maneuvering commission determines the procedure of implementing the new information system and conducts research to assist find the best information system for the organizationââ¬â¢s needs. The maneuvering commission must look at the demands of the organisation for non merely the current usage but besides how the system will turn with the organisation into the hereafter. Identifying the criterions of attention that the wellness attention organisation will assist specify the aims the commission must run into and the range of analysis to measure that the organisation system demands are met. Research Researching the sellers for merchandises that will run into the demands of certification and records storage is critical in geting the right merchandise. Reaching different sellers and puting up merchandise presentations is the best manner to compare merchandises. This will supply for hands-on research for easiness of usage and real-time inquiries to be answered by the representative. Roll uping preset rating standards from the members on the steering commission so that the choice procedure can get down. Roll uping the single comments on the merchandise must be done on the twenty-four hours of the presentation. Comparing the different information systems. this manner will assist with the choice procedure. Cost Analysis The heightened consciousness in recent old ages of the demand to populate within budgets in the wellness attention sector would look to make the perfect clime for cost-effectiveness analysis ( Russell. Gold. Siegel. Daniels. A ; Weinstein. 1996. p. 1 ) . Cost analysis is portion of the findings that the maneuvering commission must subject in their findings while researching the different merchandises. Cost is a impulsive factor in the choice of a new information system. If the new system does non incorporate into established systems within the organisation. there will be more cost associated with that merchandise. Organizations Goals Continuing the wellness attention organizationââ¬â¢s ends in every facet of the acquisition stage is first precedence. Forming schemes that identify with the mission and ends set away by the organisation will assist steer the recommendation from the maneuvering commission. Involving other undertaking leads from back uping sections such as Information Technology ( IT ) will be necessary. IT has the cognition on the bing systems and will hold the penetration that is needed when adding or uniting system merchandises. It is likely that IT has undertakings that will necessitate to interface with the new information system. Uniting thoughts and research may assist take to a better information system pick for the organisation. Functions of the Stakeholders The stakeholderââ¬â¢s functions in the organizationââ¬â¢s acquisition of new information system are from start to complete. There should be a stakeholderââ¬â¢s presence in the maneuvering commission to set their accomplishments and cognition of the programs of the organisation on the tabular array to assist influence determinations. The active stakeholder on the maneuvering commission can describe to other stakeholderââ¬â¢s on the advancement and alterations in the procedure of taking the information system. The wide scope of stakeholders is identified as anyone who holds involvement in the failure or success of the organisation. This can run from Chief-Executive-Officer ( CEO ) to concern directors and decision makers. physicians to the nursing staff and even patients. Patients are a critical beginning of information because the patient is the proprietor of the informations entered in to the information system. Stakeholders should hold active input in the full procedure of research. acquisition. and execution of a new information system. For illustration. The medical user may desire an easy-to-use system let go ofing him or her from certification undertakings. while the administrative user wants a system implementing complete documentation ( Ammenwerth. Graber. Herrmann. Burkle. A ; Konig. 2003. p. 5 ) . Decision When sing the add-on or enlargement of a wellness information system the organisation must carry on research with several sellers and a steering commission to do recommendations of the merchandise that will outdo tantrum with the demands set Forth by the organisation. The ends of the organisation will assist steer the determinations on what information system will suit the demands presently and into the hereafter. The stakeholderââ¬â¢s engagement in the full undertaking gives alone penetration from the different degrees of stakeholders. Patients. nurses. physicians. direction. and executive direction are all stakeholders. Uniting all of these elements will assist in the procedure of geting the appropriate information system for the wellness attention organisation. Mentions Ammenwerth. E. . Graber. S. . Herrmann. G. . Bronze Age Mobile Pastoralists of Central Asia
Bronze Age Mobile Pastoralists of Central Asia Steppe societies is a collective name for the Bronze Age (ca. 3500-1200 BC) nomadic and semi-nomadic people of the central Eurasian steppes. Mobile pastoralist groups have lived and herded in western and central Asia for at least 5,000 years, raising horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and yaks. Their borderless lands intersect the modern countries of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Russia, affecting and being affected by complex social systems from China to the Black Sea, the Indus Valley and Mesopotamia. Ecologically, the steppe can be characterized as part prairie, part desert, and part semi-desert, and it extends in Asia from Hungary to the Altai (or Altay) Mountains and the forests in Manchuria. In the northern parts of the steppe range, rich grasslands covered in snow for about a third of the year provide some of the best pasturelands on earth: but in the south are dangerous arid deserts dotted with oases. All of these areas are part of the mobile pastoralists homelands. Ancient History Ancient historical texts from the settled parts of Europe and Asia describe their interactions with steppe people. Most of that admittedly propagandist literature characterizes the Eurasian nomads as fierce, warlike barbarians or noble savages on horseback: for example, the Persians described their battles between the nomads as the war between good and evil. But archaeological studies of the cities and sites of the steppe societies have revealed a far more nuanced definition of the nomad life: and what is revealed is a wide diversity of cultures, languages, and methods of life. The people of the steppes were the builders and maintainers of the vast Silk Road, not to mention the traders who moved countless caravans across the pastoralist and desert landscapes. They domesticated the horse, invented war chariots and also probably the first bowed instruments. Butwhere did they come from? Traditionally, steppe societies are believed to have been arisen from agricultural societies around the Black Sea, becoming increasingly reliant on domestic cattle, sheep, and horses, and then expanding eastward in response to environmental change and the need for increased pastureages. By the Late Bronze Age (ca 1900-1300 BC), so the story goes, the entire steppe was populated by mobile pastoralists, called by archaeologists Andronovo culture. Spread of Agriculture According to research by Spengler et al. (2014), the mobile Steppe Society herders at Tasbas and Begash were also directly involved in the transmission of information concerning domestic plants and animals from their points of origin into Inner Asia during the early third millennium BC. Evidence for the use of domesticated barley, wheat, and broomcorn millet has been found at these sites, in ritual contexts; Spengler and colleagues argue that these nomadic herders were one of the ways in which these crops moved outside of their domestications: broomcorn from the east; and wheat and barley from the west. Languages of the Steppes First: a reminder: language and linguistic history do not match one-to-one with specific cultural groups. Not all English speakers are English, nor Spanish speakers Spanish: that was true as much in the past as the present. However, there are two linguistic histories that have been used to try to understand the possible origins of the steppe societies: Indo-European and Altaic. According to linguistic research, at its beginnings ca 4500-4000 BC, the Indo-European language was largely confined to the Black Sea region. About 3000 BC, Indo-European language forms spread outside of the Black Sea region into central, southern and western Asia and the northern Mediterranean. Part of that movement must be tied to the migration of people; part of that would have been transmitted by contact and trade. Indo-European is the root language for the Indic speakers of South Asia (Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi), the Iranian languages (Persian, Pashtun, Tajik), and the majority of European languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese). Altaic was originally located in Southern Siberia, eastern Mongolia, and Manchuria. Its descendants include Turkic languages (Turkish, Uzbeck, Kazakh, Uighur), and Mongolian languages, and possibly (although there is some debate) Korean and Japanese. Both of these linguistic pathways seem to have traced the movement of nomads throughout and across central Asia and back again. However, a recent article by Michael Frachetti argues that this interpretation is too simplistic to match the archaeological evidence of the spread of people and domestication practices. Three Steppe Societies? Frachettis argument lies in his assertion that the domestication of the horse cannot have driven the rise of a single steppe society. Instead, he suggests scholars should look at three separate areas where mobile pastoralism arose, in the western, central and eastern regions of central Asia, and that by the fourth and early third millennia BC, these societies were specialized. Western Steppe: east banks of the Dneiper River to the Ural Mountains and north from the Black Sea (modern countries include parts of Ukraine, Russia; cultures include Cucuteni, Tripolye, Sredny Stog, Khvalynsk, Yamnaya; sites include Moliukhor Bugor, Derievka, Kyzl-khak, Kurpezhe-molla, Kara Khuduk I, Mikhailovka II, Maikop)Central Steppe: east of the Urals to the Altai edge (countries: parts of Kazakstan, Russia, Mongolia; cultures: Botai, Atbasar; sites: Botai)Eastern Steppe: east of the Irysh River to the Yenesei (countries: Russian Siberia, cultures: Afanasââ¬â¢ev (sometimes spelled Afanasievo); sites: Balyktyul, Kara-Tenesh) The sparsity of the archaeological record continues to be an issue: there simply hasnt been a great deal of work focused on the steppes. It is a very large place, and much more work needs to be accomplished. Choose a love song, and create a story based on the love song. it Essay
Choose a love song, and create a story based on the love song. it cannot be a love song which already had a love story behind it known by lots of people, Such as Titanic - Essay Example She did not know what to say, but knew she reciprocated his feelings exactly. Back home Mimiââ¬â¢s family chided her for visiting them. ââ¬Å"They are broken refugees for Godââ¬â¢s sakeâ⬠her father shouted at the top his voice ââ¬Å"Stay away from them or you will end up in lot of troubleâ⬠. She sat staring at the moon on her balcony when she heard the puppyââ¬â¢s soft bark. She saw Ryan on her own terrace garden. She rushed up delighted ââ¬Å"How did you sneak in?â⬠He kept going on and on, about his family, country and how fled here under dangerous circumstances. His once wealthy family was now completely broken and Ryan had quit studies to support them. Mimi was too flabbergasted to register anything into her mind. She was alone and she was with him. That was the only thing that mattered to her. Finally he gave her a new note. ââ¬Å"I am working as an apprentice in the local hair salon. This is the first object I bought with my first salary. It is for you. You dropped your notebook into water in my house todayâ⬠. Mimi hugged the note close to her heart and gave him a passionate kiss on his lips. ââ¬Å"No please donââ¬â¢t go. I cannot bear to see you leaveâ⬠Ryan pressed her hand sternly and rushed away from the house into the dark. It was just a start. Ryan had been her friend, philosopher and guide for the past five years. Mimiââ¬â¢s parents packed her to a famous boarding school the very next week. From there she moved to college and her own apartment. Ryan continued to meet her regularly in the same stealth mode. No matter how strict the rules were or wherever she was, he made it a point to meet her at least once in a fortnight. They talked about all things under sky, kissed, caressed and taunted each other. They had enough of each other. The thrill of being discovered and punished only added the spiciness of the affair. Things changed in five years time. Mimi grew up to be an elite lady with several admirers thronging for her hand in marriage. Ryan had managed

Assessment one - The role of ethics in Journalism Essay
Assessment one - The role of ethics in Journalism - Essay Example Umpteenth number of times the media has been blamed to be inaccurate and biased (ââ¬Å"Ethical Issues in Journalismâ⬠). Englehardt and Barney express that utilitarianism ââ¬Å"declares an action, intention or principle should be judged by the overall immediate outcomesâ⬠(16). The theory of utilitarianism rests on the principle of utility, where every action is approved or disapproved as per the propensity it seems to have with the purpose of augmenting or diminishing happiness of the part whose interest is in question (Harrison 67). Petrick & Quinn (48) suggest that utilitarianism signifies that the ethical value of an action is dependent on yielding the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Applying this concept to journalism ethics involves the practice of journalism in a technical sense into conflict with the corporate values (Breit 213). Although journalism regards ethical value on the basis of its effect on journalistsââ¬â¢ potential to supply information, the media corporation calculates ethical values from the viewpoint of maximizing investor wealth (Breit 213). As per Sta tman, living according to utilitarianism implies ââ¬Å"caring about principles, rules and obligations, not about real human beingsâ⬠(7). According to Mills, the principle of utilitarianism is that the purpose of ethics is to direct people in performing things that will result in making the world a better place (Smith 47-52). In short, the utilitarians expect people to endeavor to perform in a manner that will yield ââ¬Å"the greatest good for the greatest numberâ⬠(Smith 47-52). What actually matters is the consequences of our actions and not our motives or intentions (Smith 47-52). However, it is not always possible to determine the consequences of our actions (Smith 47-52). For instance, a reporter may think that a story about teen suicide may enable the schools and the public to understand and

Examine how soaps attract their target audience Essay Example for Free
Examine how soaps attract their target audience Essay The reason I am writing this essay is because I am going to identify the difference between two soaps, one is Australian and the other is English. The Australian soap is called Neighbours and the English soap is Coronation Street. We are looking at these two soaps because we are seeing how successful each soap is at attracting its target audience. The first soap I will write about will be Coronation Street this soap is the English soap out of the two, so it is set in England at a town called Wetherfield, just outside of Manchester. In real life Wetherfield is a town down south. The set of Coronation Street has an old pebble street, with old terrace housing. There are many meeting places within the soap which are Peoples houses, but in the specific episode I am talking about the house that it is set in are Janises house. The houses that it makes the street typically English are old Victorian houses which are Terrance houses. The other meting places within the soap are Rovers Inn, the cafi and Roys Rolls. On the episode I watched the climate was very cold and cloudy. The main characters which appear on the soap Coronation Street are Janice and Les who are married but are getting a divorce. Dev and Gina are another two big characters in the episode I am writing about. They are getting married, in the episode we only see them on there hen and stag night. The other characters which dont play much of a part in the episode I am talking are Deidre, Ken, Curly, Terry and Maxine. There are 10 storyline going on in Coronation street, I will tell you some of them. Deidre had a one night stand with Dev, but now Dev is getting married to Gina, so Deidre is upset. A surprise party is being organized of the happy couples getting married, which are Dev and Dina. Curly and his partner had a baby. Janices boyfriend Dennis died in a car accident. Last but not least Maxine is pregnant. The way the storylines are set out in the episodes is that the skip to one storyline at a time so it would be like a cycle e. g. 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4. I think the best characters in Coronation Street are Dev and Dina, because they really do look like they are in love, as I don not normally watch this soap I could tell straight away that they were in love. Since I dont have background information on the soap I cant tell if Dev and Dina are together in real life or not, but if they are not they are really good actors. The best storyline in Coronation Street has to be the party that the street was organizing for the married couple to be, and how Deidre looks all upset and depressed. The way that the producer makes the soap Coronation Street typically English is the English accent is brought into the soap, many pubs in the street which England has take fleet for example we must have roughly about 10 pubs where I live. The way the characters use the typically English phrase do you want a cup of tea? which this phrase is often heard in the English language. Also earlier in the essay I mentioned that there were coble streets and Terrance houses. The target audience the soap Coronation Street is aimed at is mainly older people and their family and middle aged women. The theme tune makes you feel really old. The reason I said family was because Coronation Street is put on in prime time when all the family gets together. An middle aged women can convert to there life through an soap like Coronation Street there is also another reason an middle age women might watch Coronation Street this reason would be that there are many female characters in the soap. . One of the characters in Coronation Street is a certain race to this will encourage other races to watch the soap. Another character in the soap has they same affect on the audience and that is Roy because he owns his own company other people who think that they cant relate to Coronation Street they watch how is business is going. I know this because my Uncle Robert does the same thing. The storyline with Janice and lose of her boyfriend is another eye catcher for the audience as many people can relate to it as they might have lost there boyfriend through death or just breakup. The other storyline with attracts the audiences attention is Maxine and her that she is carrying even tough the baby isnt her boyfriends she will have to face the truth one day, another case of the same story is in Eastenders where Lisa has had Phils baby. The location of the soap Neighbours is set in Australia. Also in Coronation Street the soap Neighbours also has many meeting points which are peoples houses but in the episode i watched it was just Lous place. The other meting places were Good Hair Day Salon, the Dina, outside Karls warehouse and the school. The Climate unlike Coronation Street was sunny hot with a lovely clear sky. Some of the main characters which appear in the soap, are Karl and Susan who are married and have two kids called Stephanie and .. Lou and Louise are other two main Characters in the soap and Lou is the Father of Louise. Sandy and John are married. And there are many other characters who are Libby, Drew, Paul, Felicity, Joe, Todd, Toady, Maggie, Emily, Evan, Lyn, Harold, Leo, Matt, Dee, Tess, Michelle, Joel and Sandy. There are only 5 compared to Coronation Street in which there are 10. In Neighbours Lou is losing Louise his daughter because he lost the Hearing. Stephanie has got a job interview, which she doesnt get because her Mum and sister give her a makeover, in which the Interviewer did not like as Stephanie would be working with men. Stephanie also runs into an old mate who she new through Woody, as woody and him shared the same room in hospital. Leos dad recons that Leo is being bullied, so he takes action. As Leo confronts his dad to say that he wasnt bullied but didnt give certain people their essays that they paid for. Karl is receiving a delivery in which he hasnt the slightest clue what the deliver contains. I think the best character in Neighbours is Lou as he has such a hard part to play, losing his Louise is a very heart breaking experience, which also brings Lou thinking how much one Human being means to him. I also recon the best storyline has to be Lou losing Louise, I does make you want to cry, it also brings the audiences emotions into the picture. The soap Neighbours is typically Australian because of the climate which I mentioned earlier on in the essay. The registration number on the car is Australian. At the beginning of the soap while the theme tune is playing the characters are all around a pool and are having a BBQ in which the Australians are famous for. The Target audience for Neighbours is completely different from the audience that Coronation Street is aiming for. The producer of Neighbours is aiming for a much younger audience than Coronation Street. The storyline where Lou loses Louise attracts too different ages of the audience, the younger and the older, because some kids could refer to Louises situation, and some adults can refer to Lous situation on letting Louise go. Early twenties are aimed at as well as Stephanie goes for a job interview in which she doesnt get. Leo brings younger people to the audience as he is in high school, and Karl brings business people to the audience as he owns his own business in the soap the same as Roy in Coronation Street. My conclusion on the soaps Coronation Street and Neighbours is that Neighbours attracted the audience it was aiming for much better that Coronation Street as in Neighbours they brought the story of Lou and Louise. In Coronation Street there was much to relate to in my age group. As I have mentioned before Lous story brings everyones emotions together. As I do not normally watch these soaps I dont see if Coronation Street relates to me or not.

An Ironic Night :: essays research papers
It was Friday night January 12 and Tanya, Heidi, and I were on our way to the movies. We drove in Heidiââ¬â¢s brand new 2000 silver Mustang. We were in the car listening to music and happy to get to see the movie that we have been waiting to see. We were going to see Save the Last Dance at 7:25 at Creve Coeur AMC Theater. Heidi took Lindbergh south to Old Olive until we reached the movie theater. The next exit was Old Olive and we got off at it. At that time it was about 7:10. The movie was going to start in 15 minutes. We didnââ¬â¢t want to rush because we knew that we had to find a parking spot and then get seats as well. As we were driving towards the movie theater we noticed a lot of cars coming out. That meant the theater was probably crowded. We started to slow down and make a left turn into Creve Coeur Cinema. Heidi was at a dead stop in the left lane with her blinker on to turn left. Many cars were coming out of the theater and not letting her enter the parking lot. I turned to Heidi and told her, "Heidi scoot up a lilââ¬â¢ bit so you have a chance to get in." "Ok," replied Heidi. Just then I turned to the right and looked at the people doing clean-ups at Creve Coeur Waterway. Heidi was still waiting for her turn. All of a sudden we hear and feel a huge thud. All at once the air bags flew out and the car jumped into the other lane. As soon as we realized what happened we jumped out of the car. Being that I was so shocked and freaked out I forgot that Tanya was in the back seat. I let her out quickly and then all I could hear after that was Heidi screaming. "OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" "What the heck happened," I said. "Look at my car! Look at what they did to my car! You are going to pay for this" Heidi shouted. I turned to look at Tanya and she had just dialed the police with her cell phone. Everything had happened so fast. Within a few minutes the cop showed up. Heidi was still screaming and then she called her mom. Just then Tanya and I called our parents to let them know what happened and that we were ok.

Autism and Physical Therapy Help
Autism Spectrum Disorders Autism spectrum disorders are very complex neurological disorders that have baffled experts over the years. These have brought numerous questions on the actual causes but there have not been many answers. Pervasive developmental disorders are how Autism spectrums are classified and it includes Autism, Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, and Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. Each of these disorders has similarities in the individualââ¬â¢s lack of communication, socialization, and behavior. Autism was first introduced by Leo Kanner in the forties. His research is close in comparison to research conducted today. There will be signs of autism before the age of three and there are some significant deficits that help diagnose these young children. Social interaction, communication, and behavior are three deficits that are very noticeable in children with autism. You could be trying to talk to your own brother and he would be preoccupied doing something else. He w ouldnââ¬â¢t show any signs of comprehending what you are saying and wouldnââ¬â¢t even look you in the eyes while you spoke. Autism can devastate a family, there is no cure and no medicine. You could have a normal developing baby until they just seemingly start to change and show abnormal behaviors before they turn three. They can look normal on the outside but there is some unknown phenomenon that happens to their brain. Genetic and environmental causes have been tested but there is still no definite answer. Aspergerââ¬â¢s disorder is named after Hans Asperger in 1944 when he saw significant patterns of behavior in mostly his male patients. Aspergerââ¬â¢s disorder is similar to autism in their impairments in social interaction and behavior. But they do not have a delay in language, cognitive development, and adaptive behavior. This disorder becomes clearer in elementary school when obvious social and behavioral problems become apparent. One rare condition that can appear i n individuals is called savantism. These individuals show profound abilities that exceed what would be ordinary in most people. Another syndrome is called Rett and it is a very rare disorder of the nervous system that lead to developmental reversals especially in areas of language and hand use. Kids with this syndrome have normal development for the first five months, but have significant decelerated head growth between five and forty-eight months. It is onset prior to age four but is common to start earlier in life. Rett syndrome appears in nearly only females and can be misdiagnosed with other disorders like cerebral palsy. Some symptoms are floppy arms or legs, seizures, loss of normal sleep patterns, intellectual, and learning difficulties. The last of the Autism spectrum disorders is Childhood Disintegrative Disorder. The children with this disorder have normal development for the first couple years. They are diagnosed if they have a loss of skills in language, behavior, bowel c ontrol, and motor skills. Some other criteriaââ¬â¢s are abnormal functioning in social interaction, communication and stereotype behaviors. There is no cure for these disorders but there is some therapy that can help. Behavioral therapy helps with social skills, self care, and can increase independent functioning. Occupational, speech, and physical therapy help the individual as well. Medications like stimulants and antidepressants are also helpful but their so exact medication for autism. But the main way to treat patients is to individualize the treatment.Having impairments in verbal and nonverbal communication would be devastating for any family. To have your child developing normally with the ability to communicate and act normal, then out of know where starts to lose those abilities. I couldnââ¬â¢t imagine how frustrating and sad it would be for the family to have to cope that. Itââ¬â¢s crazy to think with all the technology in the world that someone or some organizatio n could find better treatment or even a cure. Hopefully one day there will be a cure and families around the world would be able to have normal lives with their loved ones.

Pervasiveness of Marketing
Vital marketing decisions are made by every business; but as important as it is to make the right business decisionâ⬠¦ it is essential that marketing professionals understand how their marketing impacts our social values. There are several different ways that marketers get their message across to potential customers(1), each marketing communications tool can have different effects on us. Marketing is intrusive, businesses are constantly trying to push their brands in our facesâ⬠¦ we barely process one piece of information before the next one comes shooting our way. The pervasiveness marketing has undoubtedly influenced our mind-set and behaviourâ⬠¦ a disposable culture creeps closer to becoming reality. Itââ¬â¢s because our buyer behaviour is image based, we care about how others see us more than how we see ourselves. This hugely changes our views on society; contemporary marketing has made us believe that we are what we buy, and that the brands we ownâ⬠¦ are a direct reflection of us. Marketing is an integral business function, but is hardly respected. It continually aims to stimulate demand which leads to new customersâ⬠¦ and that leads to more market share. No longer can marketing be tunnel visioned in itââ¬â¢s pursuit for brand awareness. Certain companies have mastered the AIDA model and can use their understanding on countless consumers, the Sony Bravia advert with the bouncing balls(2) went through the whole cycle from attention all the way to stimulating actionâ⬠¦ making them buy products they didnââ¬â¢t particularly need in the first place. Point-Of-Sale cues are used relentlessly and marketers are accused of not looking at how their decisions impact broader society. Our social values are changing to customers being more self-centred and buying everything that suits them. Our social values include friends, who we want to have a good time with. But playing on the back of our heads constantly, is how cool we think we look, have we impressed our friends? Do we have the right clothes on? Do we have the right phone? As I mentioned, we think that the brands we own are a reflection of usâ⬠¦ so we try and buy the right products, not only to suit our personalities; but to fit in. There is one thing that hugely influences our social values, and thatââ¬â¢s technology(3). A wireless world is slowly becoming more of an actuality as time goes on. The internet, as enthralling as it may be, has made people ess sociable and more secluded. Perhaps one of the most important social values is quality time with our families; this is not possible if we are glued to the monitor during dinner time. In the past, dinner meant the whole family sitting around a table, having a laugh and eating to their hearts content. The internet has cut into this social value and is influencing young minds. But itââ¬â¢s been a fantastic medium for communication and a brilliant source for information. Both ways can be argued. Advances in technology will introduce location based advertising in the future(4), this makes us even more reliant on technology. This means that where ever we are, we will be targeted by businessesâ⬠¦ which directly impact our social lives; making us shop instead of talk to those we may know in the area. The whole notion of positioning is based upon understanding the consumerâ⬠¦ not society, making us feel like we can familiarise ourselves with the brand, so that it doesnââ¬â¢t feel like marketing but instead feels like a developing relationship. Segmenting customers is a common marketing tool used when it comes to deciding on a target market. But it has huge disadvantages on society; a common way for segmentation to take place is with airlines. First class, business class and economy are forms of segmenting the market. Customers who have high disposable income doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily have to fly first classâ⬠¦ but the positioning of first class in the consumers mind communicates the message that if you can afford it, go for it. First class passengers have made the association that flying in luxury means they are successful and are respected. When in realness, they simply have more money than the average person. Economy flyers are made to think that they are normal, nothing special, but some of them could actually be successful. Some of them may have significantly advanced in their careers, and may have even helped the world! The social values of first class travellers has changed into looking down on other passengers who arenââ¬â¢t flying first classâ⬠¦ the feeling of self accomplishment is just an illusion created by marketing. There are other marketing tools which de-individualises customers and sees them as groups and not individuals. An example of this is the postcode analysis, this influences the social values of consumers into thinking that they are only as good as the people who live near them. Marketing professionals need to start respecting customers as customers, and they need to understand the uniqueness of each individual consumer. There is a really important marketing tool that can assess how much marketers are impacting our social values. Businesses can construct a PESTEL analysis of themselves to gain a better understanding of what is in their wayâ⬠¦ and what they need to take into account before implementing any marketing decisions. MOSAIC is another segmentation tool used by marketers to decide exactly how to target their target market. This generalises too much and doesnââ¬â¢t see customers as individuals, but as titles. There is one main point that marketing criticsââ¬â¢ keep bringing up. They see branding as being misleading to consumers, that the associations made with the product or service is just an illusionâ⬠¦ and doesnââ¬â¢t reflect the actual quality of the product or service itself(5). Marketers definitely need to take this into account when taking care of brand management. However an argument against this is that branding gives people confidence, it helps consumers see themselves in a desirable light when owning a particular brand. It makes them feel like they are a part of something, this positive feeling surely canââ¬â¢t be criticised. An example of a business who tries to create a strong association is Disney. Their chain of ââ¬ËMagic Happensââ¬â¢ adverts definitely play on our emotional strings(6). They play on portraying the dreamy effect with their brand communication, which withholds powerful emotional appeals. Disney sells an experience, something intangible. This works really well when it comes to targeting children, the imagination of a child is endlessâ⬠¦ with hardly any limits. However this really affects childrenââ¬â¢s social values, making them almost worship Disney characters. Ultimately, this makes the children think that going to Disney Land is described as ââ¬Ëa dream come trueââ¬â¢; taking their minds off of the important things in life. Another example is Coca Cola. Their marketing strategy relies on making the consumer feel satisfaction when drinking Coke, making the consumer feel refreshedâ⬠¦ and ââ¬Ëhappyââ¬â¢. The Coke slogan is ââ¬ËOpen coke. Open happinessââ¬â¢(7). The association that will be made is definitely an emotional one, and will make customers feel like someone when they drink a can of coke in front of people. This is probably the brand that endangers our social values the most, due to the obvious reason that happiness is achieved through success or through a positive social encounter. Not from drinking Coke, this is nothing more than a positioning strategy. Behavioural psychology explains the laws of classical and operant conditioning. This has been used by many businesses in order to condition a specific response from a customer. Classical conditioning can be, and has been used in various advertisements; in order to create lasting associations that will be profitable to the business. A psychologist called Pavlov tests classical conditioning in one of heââ¬â¢s experiments(8), and since then, he has influenced the use of heââ¬â¢s findings by many marketers. An example of this is McDonalds, the first time we heard the famous McDonalds short and snappy jingle we didnââ¬â¢t know what to make of it. But after a few more adverts we made the association between the jingle and the slogan ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢m lovinââ¬â¢ itââ¬â¢(9). Whilst this association was being made, you can visualise the McDonalds logo and any images they want you to see. The general feel of the adverts are happy and upbeat. With time, our association became so strong, that all McDonalds do now is play the jingle, and we all say or think ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢m lovinââ¬â¢ itââ¬â¢. This then becomes our unconditioned response to the jingle, which started off as being a neutral stimulus. So as you can see, classical conditioning is a powerful tool that marketers use, and we have attempted to create an advert; whilst trying to apply the laws of classical conditioning. Customers are almost hypnotised into thinking exactly what McDonalds wants them to think. This changes our social values into being more self-centred, making us seek pleasure for ourselves and gets rid of the whole idea of togetherness and sharing. The psychodynamic approach in psychology was devised by Sigmund Freud, an influential figure in psychology. He said that our conscious thoughts and actions are influenced by unconscious drives, such as the sex drive(10). Marks and Spencer food adverts take advantage of this idea. The woman speaking in the background speaks in a soft, sensual voice making it seem the food should be eaten in an intimate way(11)â⬠¦ which almost makes us think their selling sex. According to the psychodynamic approach, our unresolved child issues and our sex drive will influence our conscious behaviourâ⬠¦ which is to ultimately buy the food. Marketers need to be very careful with this type of advertising; itââ¬â¢s almost as if the consumers are not in control of what they like. Our social values may have been having a laugh with friends of the opposite gender, but due to this kind of psychological approach to advertisingâ⬠¦ it may unwillingly effect the perception of the customer. Using psychological approaches in adverts is legal, but it doesnââ¬â¢t mean itââ¬â¢s moral. The mind-set of the customer changes, their perception changes and so their behaviour changes; this can be seen as immoral. Companies ensure they put all side effects of certain products on the packagingâ⬠¦ but when are marketers going to actually take into account the side effects of their own decisions? If a certain type of marketing impacts broader society too much, and stimulates demand to an extent that the environment will sufferâ⬠¦ the marketers should definitely take it easy and refrain from these types of activities. Every career needs to work towards a better world to live in; this is what morality is all about. ââ¬ËThe strategic business function that creates value by stimulating, facilitating and fulfilling customer demandââ¬â¢(12)â⬠¦ this is on of the definitions of marketing. But how will consumer sovereignty affect this? The old definition was meeting customer needs profitably, customers may decide what will be produced or on the other hand marketers may decide what consumers should be interested in. It all depends on how society is looked after by marketers, and how society reacts to marketing decisions. Our social values stems from how society operates and how society holds up against continual marketing activities. The decisions that marketers make impact society hugely, it can increase demand and can decrease demand. McDonalds have been successful at stimulating demand, due to this they have had to create 4000 new jobs(13). But even though more demand means success to a marketer, there is always backlash. There is ââ¬Ëa protest against the promotion of junk food, the unethical targeting of children, exploitation of workers, animal cruelty, damage to the environment and the global domination of corporations over our lives. Marketing strategies are successful at making a profit, but itââ¬â¢s time marketing professionals look after the society which they themselves are a part of. Not necessarily societal marketing, but just using some of the concepts of this type of marketing. I think that itââ¬â¢s a personal challenge to each and every one of us to act and speak in a way which doesnââ¬â¢t reflect the conditioned responses that marketing and movies have created. Our social values echo our personality and what we hold close to our hearts; marketing professionals can change or strengthen this. That means reliability is a necessity as a marketer. The Drum vs Vitai Lampada
The Drum vs Vitai Lampada Free Online Research Papers ââ¬ËThe Drumââ¬â¢ by John Scott and ââ¬ËVitai Lampadaââ¬â¢ by Henry Newbolt both focuses on the eve of battle, but differs greatly regarding their attitudes. The poems have greatly contrasting views of war. The Drum has a negative perception of war whereas Vitai Lampada portrays a very positive image of war. ââ¬ËThe Drumââ¬â¢ was written in the Napoleonic war. John Scott is an anti war poet. He uses the first person to describe his angst towards war. He also uses a rhythm to imitate a drumââ¬â¢s beat. From the first few words of the poem, ââ¬Å"I hateâ⬠, there is no ambiguity about Scottââ¬â¢s stance ââ¬â it is clear that he is strongly opposed to the devastation of war. His hate is for the ââ¬Ëdrumââ¬â¢s discordant soundââ¬â¢, a symbol of war. As John Scott says he hates the drum he is showing his hatred of the war and slaughter that goes on. As this line is repeated in the second stanza, it emphasises the writers hatred of the war. John Scottââ¬â¢s beliefs are displayed within the poem because of the fact that John Scott is a Quaker. Vitae Lampada is a poem of strength and power. Henry Newbolt was a poet who championed the virtues of chivalry and sportsmanship combined in the service of the British Empire. Play up! Play up! And play the game! Words that have become famous through the years symbolised Newbolts view that war should be fought in the same spirit as school sports. He illustrates war through the use of the imagery of soldiers playing games. The author, Henry Newbolt, writes about war in this way, so that he can get his view of war across in a more defined manner. John Scott has got a negative perception of war because he was a wealthy Quaker who was opposed to violence and war whereas Henry Newbolt went to a public school where he was taught to rule and led the fight to defend the overseas possessions. Even though Henry Newbolt knew what was going to happen in the war, he thought it was worth it to fight and die for the country in the war. Character of Touchstone in Shakespeares As You Like It Shakespeare As You Like It Essays
The Character ofà Touchstone in As You Like It à As You Like It features, like so many of Shakespeare's plays, a professional clown, Touchstone, and it's worth paying some attention to his role for what it contributes towards establishing and maintaining the upbeat comic spirit of the play. For the jester is the constant commentator on what is going on. His humour, pointed or otherwise, thus inevitably contributes to the audience's awareness of what is happening, and the way in which other characters treat him is often a key indicator of their sensibilities. Touchstone is one of the gentlest and happiest clowns in all of Shakespeare. He comments on the action, makes jokes at other people's expense, and offers ironic insights about their situation. But throughout As You Like It, such traditional roles of the fool are offered and taken with a generosity of spirit so that his remarks never shake the firm comic energies of the play. When he ridicules Orlando's verses, Rosalind laughs along with him. When he points out to Corin (in 3.2) that the shepherd must be damned for never having lived at court, Corin takes it as good natured jesting (which it is). When Touchstone takes Audrey away from her rural swain, William, there are apparently no hard feelings (although much here depends on the staging). In this play, the professional jester participates in and contributes to a style of social interaction which is unqualified by any more sober and serious reflections. This makes Touchstone very different from the bitter fool of King Le ar or from the most complex fool of all, the sad Feste of Twelfth Night , both of whom offer comments that cast either a shrewd, melancholy, or bitter irony on the proceedings. à Touchstone himself becomes the target of much humour by his immediate attraction to Audrey, the "foul" country lass. There is something richly comic here, seeing the staunch apologist for the sophisticated life of the court fall so quickly to his animal lust. But the satire here is very good humoured. Touchstone himself acknowledges the frailty of his vows and does not attempt to deceive anyone about his intentions.

LogisticsReflective Report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
LogisticsReflective Report - Essay Example I even developed a strong position towards an idea about various advantages that the organisations can reap in order to maintain their dominant business position with the successful development of Supply Chain Management (SCM) procedure. I have even elaborated various needs of modernisation within the conventional procedure of supply chain to promote innovativeness amid individuals, so that organisations are able to enhance their competitive advantages in the global domain. Critical review of the innovative practices inculcated in the SCM procedure has also been quite useful in conducting an in-depth analysis of the subject matter. While working with my first essay, I developed an inductive analysis of aspects related with the development of logistics. However, while formulating the essay, I identified that there are certain issues to be addressed but seemed challenging as per my abilities. I was also less confident when preparing the first essay as compared to my degree of confidence in the second essay. However, with adequate support, I believe to have justified the topic successfully. While conducting an in depth research, on the different approaches of logistics and its scope of innovativeness, I learnt about certain new concepts that I was further able to relate with the development of the overall SCM procedure. One of those concepts was the ââ¬Ësupply base localisationââ¬â¢ theme, which was based on the notion of developing local value chains in relation to international supply chain. With the motive to provide an insight on the various concepts that are related with the innovative approaches of SCM as well as logistics, I could develop a clear understanding of the various needs of SCM in the local level. This essay was illustrated based on the concepts that I have reviewed in my first essay and was a clear addition to the innovative index that has been focused while formulating the initial one. Essay 2 has detailed
